Kites for Kids Celebrates 4th Year of Uplifting the Community

Today marked the 4th annual Kites for Kids event, held at the T.N. Tatem Field, bringing together families, friends, and community leaders in the spirit of unity, tradition, and giving back.

Organizers Anthony Bailey JR., Kamikko Ingham, and Mahkinday Johnson shared with TNN the heart behind this grassroots movement. Now four years strong, the initiative started with a simple but powerful idea: ensure that no child in Bermuda goes without a kite on Good Friday.

“It takes a lot of work,” said Bailey JR. “Sometimes a few disagreements, but we always pull through. The public shows up for us every year, and that support keeps us going. We love doing this.”

The team emphasized the emotional and cultural impact of kite-flying in Bermuda, especially as families face economic challenges. “Some families can’t even afford a kite,” Bailey added. “We just want to help restore that joy. A small thing like flying a kite can bring peace, love, and harmony back to our communities—one footprint at a time.”

More than just kites, the event speaks to a broader goal: reviving a village mentality and curbing violence. “We’re trying to bring back that culture where everyone looks out for one another,” said Johanson. “It’s about more than fun—it’s about healing.”

As crowds gathered and the distribution line moved steadily, the team reminded everyone to stay aware, look after their children, and enjoy the day together.

The initiative is supported by Sunshine After Dark and The Give Back, two movements driven by young men with a shared goal: building peace and community, one act of service at a time.

No event like this would be possible without the support of local sponsors, including:

  • Roger Brooks Trucking
  • Brendon Bermuda
  • DJ I-Breeze
  • Song Machine Son
  • Embellish
  • Graphic Art and Design
  • Belco

Organizers also gave special thanks to TNN for continued coverage and support. “You’re part of this, too,” one organizer said. “TNN to the world!”

As Bermuda continues to face social and economic challenges, events like Kites for Kids serve as powerful reminders of what’s possible when a community comes together—not just to fly kites, but to lift each other higher.
