Kaleidoscope Celebrates World Art Day

April 15th, was Leonardo Davinci’s Birthday and has since been recognized as World Art Day! This year’s theme is “A Garden of Expression: Cultivating Community Through Art.”

The Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation (Kaleidoscope) would like to invite everyone to celebrate with us, through connecting with art during the day. Additionally, they will be celebrating with a grub day, tag day, and an “Everyone is Creative contest.”

Our creative contest is taking some of our favorite items in Bermuda, from Moongates to Cahows to Lighthouses, and allowing individuals to make them into a new creation, completely different from their original design. This concept of creative process allows everyone to see things in a new way and imagine something completely different. If you, your company, school, classroom, or family would like to participate in their tag day, grub day, and/or the Creative Contest, contact Kaleidoscope (info@kaf.bm/ 542.9000).

Kaleidoscope’s focus is empowering children in art. They serve children from toddlers aged 18 months to adults through engaging in art, nature, and the creative process. Their space at 27 Jubilee road has become a cornerstone for thousands seeking creative exploration and learning in a supportive environment.

Kaleidoscope offers classes, camps, and workshops to the public. Kaleidoscope visits each public preschool on the island and works with many public and private schools for workshops. Kaleidoscope partners with Bermuda Education Network’s Horizons Program to offer curriculum enhancement through art programming to all P3, P4, & P5 public school classes.

Kaleidoscope’s tag and grub day fundraising will go towards supporting our Bursary needs for 2025. We meet a good portion of our students through our partnerships. We believe that all students should have access to creative programming, even if they can not afford it. We believe the whole community benefits from connecting with the creative process.

Research “found that children who showed greater creativity, according to their teachers, at aged 7 had a lower risk of depression, restlessness, social or behavioural maladjustment and behavioural instability later on in adolescence” (Fancourt D, Steptoe A. Effects of creativity on social and behavioral adjustment in 7-to 11-year-old children LINK)One parent, whose child is benefiting from our 2025 bursary program, shared,

“I feel that they are giving children the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe environment; that is allowing them to create their own masterpieces in which they feel proud of! The funding helps the program tremendously as it keeps our children focused on something they love doing! We as parents thank you for the much-needed assistance as without it they may have never been able to attend!”

If you know a young, aspiring artist or gardener who could benefit from a scholarship, don’t hesitate to recommend them. Kaleidoscope’s Bursary students are ages 18 months-18 years old and can be recommended by a teacher, social worker, community partner, or a caregiver. If you know a student who is interested please reach out to info@kaf.bm to share your interest and learn about our opportunities.
