*Judge Blocks PLP Rule Changes Ahead of Leadership Showdown*

A Supreme Court judge has published her reasons for blocking proposed changes to Progressive Labour Party membership rules ahead of its leadership contest.

Acting Chief Justice Shade Subair Williams granted an interim injunction on September 4, barring the PLP central committee from implementing and enforcing amendments to its membership and delegate selection process.

The committee had sought to restrict automatic party membership and to extend the waiting period before members could become eligible to serve as delegates.

The legal challenge was brought by Curtis Dickinson, who is contesting the party leadership against Jason Hayward. He argued that the proposed amendments violated the party’s constitution and bylaws.

In a written ruling, Mrs Justice Subair Williams found there was a serious issue to be tried. She concluded that the potential harm to the plaintiffs could not be remedied by a financial award if the injunction was not granted, and that injunctive relief was therefore warranted.
