TNN News spoke with Jason Hayward, the Progressive Labour Party (PLP) candidate for C-17, during day one of early polling at Mount St. Agnes Academy School. The early polling period, which runs from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., allows seniors, travelers, and individuals with other voting challenges to cast their ballots ahead of the general election which is scheduled for next Tuesday February 18.
With just seven days remaining until the election, Hayward shared insights on the key concerns of his constituents and expressed confidence in the PLP’s track record.
• Consistent Community Issue.
The issues in C-17 have remained consistent, Hayward stated. Concerns about Belco, the cost of living, and certain infrastructure issues are ongoing. These are all things we’re committed to working on as a party.
Despite these challenges, Hayward noted a positive turnout. It’s been great to see a constant stream of people coming out to exercise their democratic right. It’s a beautiful thing, and I’m confident that when they review the work the Progressive Labour Party has done and what we seek to accomplish, they’ll support us.
• Early Polling for Seniors and Travelers
Hayward explained the importance of offering early polling options for seniors and those unable to vote on the official election day. We tried this method during a by-election, and it was effective. It’s all about providing another option to ensure that everyone has a chance to participate.
• Navigating Multiple Candidates
When asked about the competition in C-17, Hayward acknowledged some voter confusion due to the number of candidates running. Certainly, people are a little confused about which candidates represent which parties. But one thing they’re not confused about is Hayward and the work I’ve done in the constituency.
• Message to Undecided Voters
For those still undecided, Hayward had a clear message: Take an honest and earnest look at the work the Progressive Labour Party has done since 1963. Look at what we’ve accomplished since regaining government in 2017, and review our plans for the future. I’m confident that when people do that assessment, they’ll choose to support the PLP.
