Westgate Correctional Facility Experiencing Outbreak of COVID-19

Word coming to TNN suggesting that 18 people, both inmates and staff, at the Westgate Correctional Facility’s E2 Unit tested positive for the Coronavirus, after it is believed that an officer brought it in on Sunday night.

As the facility is undergoing renovations, negative inmates are being forced to quarantine with positive ones.

Prison officers are up in arms that the Corrections Commissioner Keeva Joel-Benjamin has not yet stressed that they must get tested before coming into work.

TNN is also receiving word that one middle school and one primary school each have had recent outbreaks of COVID-19, as well as an east end supermarket.

With Bermuda day arriving in two days, will the island be experiencing further outbreaks just as summer approaches and school comes out?

These questions will be posed to the Ministry of Health and other government officials in due course.
