Invitation to Shape the Nation’s First National Youth Statement

The Youth Delegation of Bermuda is excited to announce the launch of Bermuda’s first National Youth Statement initiative officially endorsed by YOUNGO- the Children and Youth Constituency of the United Nations as part of Bermuda’s very first Local Consultation of Youth (LCOY).

They are calling on the voices of children and youth to help shape a brighter and more sustainable future for the island. This groundbreaking project encourages young Bermudians to contribute their ideas, concerns, and demands for positive change.

“We want to make sure that young Bermudian’s voices are heard on the issues that directly affect their lives and their future,” said Malachi Symonds, youth advocate and co-organizer of the initiative.

The National Youth Statement will be submitted to the Children and Youth Constituency of the United Nations, for inclusion in the Global Youth Statement, which will be presented to world leaders at the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) this November. Additionally, the final document will be shared with Bermuda’s leaders in hopes of influencing local policy and decision-making.

“This is an opportunity for Bermuda’s youth to engage in one of the most influential global dialogues and have their unique perspectives shared on the global stage,” said Noelle Young, climate justice delegate and co-organizer.

Sagar Kalra, YOUNGO Liaison commented: “I am extremely glad to see Bermuda host their first LCOY where young people across Bermuda will have the opportunity to share their demands for a better future with their Elders, their Government and World Leaders. We are incredibly proud of our national organizers for their incredible work on the ground.”

Fabiola Melchior, LCOY Liaison commented “Local Conferences of Youth (LCOYs) are a global movement for climate justice spearheaded by incredibly motivated youth from over 100 countries. LCOYs serve as a platform to build strong networks of youth advocates, formulate youth demands for action, and co-create strategies to communicate those demands to local and global decisions-makers. Together, we are strengthening the global youth climate movement every single year!”
