International Day of Persons with Disabilities December 3rd

“On Monday, November 28th, at 12:30 pm on the steps of City Hall, we invite the public to join us for the Proclamation of the UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3rd, 2022),” said the Minister of Social Development and Seniors, the Hon. Tinee Furbert, JP, MP.

Minister Furbert shared, “As part of their 2022-2023 Goals, the Disability Advisory Council (DAC) oversaw the planning and development of the 2022 United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) Week of Events.”

Minister Furbert added, “The UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities is on December 3rd, 2022, and a handful of organisations will be holding events just before and after the official week and we felt it is important to highlight them as well.”

“WindReach’s  Common Ground Conference, Hope Academy’s Morning Wave, and MWI’s Motorcade have become beloved, highly anticipated staples of IDPD for the local disabled and wider community alike and we’re encouraged to see the  enthusiasm and excitement from the organisations involved to build on and continue this.”

“Unfortunately, the MWI Motorcade will not take place this year however, we expect an engaging and inspiring week nonetheless.”

Minister Furbert concluded, “We encourage the disabled community to participate in the events that will take place for them, by them; and in the spirit of inclusion, we also hope to see the wider community supporting these events.”

“As we strive to ‘promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilise support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of persons with disabilities,’ it is our aim that the spirit of inclusion, understanding and acceptance not just be celebrated over IDPD week but, it becomes second nature in our day to day lives.”
