As Bermuda ushers in the start of the 2026 cruise ship tourism season, all eyes are on the island’s crown jewel — Horseshoe Bay Beach — where anticipation is building for what could be one of the most successful summers in recent years.
Standing at the forefront of that excitement is Tulani Bulford, manager of the beach’s bustling concession operations, who says the outlook is nothing short of promising.
“We anticipate this to be a very good season,” Bulford shared, pointing to forecasts predicting a mild hurricane season — a factor that could extend peak tourism well beyond the usual late-summer slowdown. “We’re excited about an extended season that could run strong from May straight through to the end of October.”
The optimism doesn’t stop with the weather. Increased cruise ship arrivals — credited in part to efforts by Bermuda’s tourism leadership — are expected to drive a noticeable uptick in visitor numbers. For Horseshoe Bay Beach, that means fuller sands, longer days, and greater economic opportunity.
While the official tourism surge begins May 1, operations at the beach are already in full swing. Staff have been on duty since April 1, currently serving visitors at about 30 to 40 percent capacity. But that’s expected to climb quickly in the coming weeks.
Despite the influx of international guests, Bulford is clear about one thing: Horseshoe Bay Beach belongs to everyone.
“There’s been a lot of mistrust,” he said. “But locals and tourists are all welcome. We don’t discriminate — everyone who comes here is a guest of ours and a guest of Bermuda.”
This season, visitors can expect more than just sun and surf. The concession stand has undergone a culinary upgrade, boasting an expanded menu featuring everything from fresh lobster and steak to made-to-order favorites like fettuccine Alfredo. A strengthened culinary team, including world-class chefs, is set to elevate the beach dining experience.
And for those looking to cool off, the drink menu is just as lively. Signature cocktails like the popular “Happy Juice” and our most popular cocktail “Orgasm” promise to keep spirits high, adding a playful touch to long beach days.
Behind the scenes, a dedicated team ensures the beach operates seamlessly from sunrise to sunset. With leadership from Chief Operating Officer Dalton Evans and Beach Operations Director Taj Bell and Zakai Cann, along with logistics support, the day begins as early as 5 a.m. and continues until the last guest leaves the sand.
Safety, however, remains a top priority.
With Horseshoe Bay’s powerful rip currents posing risks even to experienced swimmers, Bulford emphasized the importance of awareness and responsibility. Enhanced lifeguard presence — supported by newly introduced equipment like jet skis — and a fully CPR- and first aid-trained staff aim to provide a secure environment for all.
“This is the safest beach in the world,” Bulford said confidently, while acknowledging that nature always carries inherent risks. “We encourage everyone — if you’re not a strong swimmer, stay close to shore.”
As Bermuda’s tourism engine revs up, Horseshoe Bay Beach stands ready — not just as a destination, but as an experience.
With optimism in the air, a strengthened team on the ground, and a season full of potential ahead, Bulford leaves visitors with a simple invitation:
“Come down, enjoy, and have a Bermudiful summer.”
