Family fun abounded at East End Primary yesterday [Saturday] as Constituency #1, led by Renee Ming, hosted its 19th Annual Easter Egg Hunt.
Faces young and old reflected a community enjoying itself, especially among the seniors and children in attendance.
Children eagerly hunted for eggs and showed off their new outfits, while seniors shared stories and enjoyed the children’s enthusiasm.
Generations united for bunny hop and egg-and-spoon races, enjoying savory food, baked goods, and plenty of candy between activities.
The best moments came from shared smiles and laughter, as children received attention from adults and seniors, and seniors enjoyed the children’s presence—a win-win for everyone.
Michael Watson, elated by the prevailing camaraderie, expressed pride that his niece, Renee Ming, played a major role in uniting the community.
“I come down here on an annual basis, and it’s a beautiful thing what my niece puts on,” said Watson. “She does a lot of excellent things in the community, and what I can support, I will, guaranteed.
“I mean, just look at this. It’s beautiful. The children. The seniors. The parents. What a lovely place.
“It’s a nice community event. I give her a lot of credit for that. I enjoy it. The community enjoys it. It’s what real community looks like.”
For Donald Lottimore, who grew up in St George’s, the event allowed him to relive his youth at the place where he studied, walked the school hallways, and enjoyed the lush surroundings.
“I grew up in St. George’s,” said Lottimore. “I went to school here, so it’s nice to be able to come back home and enjoy family time.
“It’s my wife’s first experience with it, so she’s really enjoying herself and seeing the grands and great nieces and nephews.
“I didn’t do well in the egg and spoon race, but hopefully next year I’ll do better.
“Many thanks to MP Ming and the Constituency #1 branch for putting on this event. This is real family time.”
A tad weary but joyfully satisfied, MP Ming expressed gratitude for serving the community and promised bigger, better things for next year’s 20th celebration.
“Today was a great day,” began Ming. “This is our annual event, and it was well attended. We had lots of fun. We enjoyed being outside. The children just playing, not on the phone, and running around, was great to see.
“We had egg and spoon. We had sack races. We had amazing food. We had amazing prizes.
“When I look at today, my heart’s warm because this is all about what community is, and people came out.
“We had our seniors here today from the Dorothy Crane Nursing Home. We had seniors who just came out to sit off, and we had loads of children.
“The event was definitely well attended, so we are really happy about that. And we’re happy that the Easter Bunny came and gave out a few goodies as well.
This was our 19th year hosting the event. Next year will be our 20th, and we want to make it even better, but this is what it should be about.
“This was about my community. And I don’t mean just my St. George’s community. I mean my Bermuda community, where people know that they can come out and enjoy a family-friendly event.
“Today, we shared good food, prizes, games, and looked out for each other. Let’s get back to that, because this is who we are.”
