At 10:00 a.m. today Friday 25th June, police received a 911 call reporting a serious road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a motorcar, on Knapton Hill near Knapton Estate Road, Smiths.
Police and other first responders arrived to find the motorcycle rider, a 23-year-old-male unresponsive and being attended to by members of the public.
EMT’s quickly began performing CPR on the victim who was transported via ambulance to King Edward Hospital where, sadly, he was subsequently pronounced dead.
The other vehicle involved in the collision, described only as “a black car” left the scene before police arrived.
This incident is now being investigated as a fatal hit and run road traffic collision and police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the vehicle and its driver.
Anyone with information on this fatal collision, no matter how insignificant you think it to be, is asked to call PC Rawlins on 717-2123. You may also call 211 or, the main police number, 295-0011.
This marks the island’s sixth road fatality for 2021.
The roadway which closed while the scene was processed by Traffic Investigators and Forensics officers, has now been reopened.
