Heated PLP Central Committee Meeting Exposes Deep Divided Party

TNN News understands that a heated Progressive Labour Party Central Committee meeting last night has exposed what one insider described as continued division, hostility and a lack of respect within the governing party.

According to the insider, the meeting was marked by contentious exchanges and what they described as disrespect toward PLP Leader Curtis Dickinson, members of his team and, in particular, allegations and innuendos directed toward Mr. Dickinson and his family.

“There’s no unity,” the insider repeatedly told TNN. “There’s no unity. There’s no unity.”

The source said the atmosphere inside the meeting was hostile, with disagreements demonstrating that the internal divisions within the PLP remain unresolved.

“What was displayed in that meeting last night? There was no unity and no respect for Curtis Dickinson and his team. There was no respect at all,” the insider said.

The source also alleged that some participants appeared to disregard basic decorum during the meeting.

The insider claimed that Premier and PLP Leader E. David Burt was among those speaking frequently during the meeting, describing his approach as forceful.

The source further alleged that several individuals who were not Central Committee representatives were prevented from asking questions during the “Any Other Business” portion of the meeting.

“They are members, and they are entitled to ask questions,” the insider said, describing the decision to restrict certain individuals from participating as “appalling.”

TNN asked the source to describe the overall energy inside the room.

“Hostile,” the insider responded.

Asked whether the meeting reflected an “us against them” atmosphere and whether the party remains divided, the source was unequivocal.

“Coming out of that meeting, we are still extremely divided,” the insider said.

The insider also expressed concern about the ongoing court proceedings involving the PLP’s internal membership and delegate dispute, saying there was “no respect for the process that we are facing now” and “no respect for the court process.”

The matter is expected to return to court on Thursday and Friday.

TNN also questioned the insider about public comments attributed to Premier David Burt regarding his willingness to resolve the dispute before further court proceedings.

When asked whether that willingness to settle was reflected in the tone of the meeting, the insider offered a sharply critical interpretation.

“I just feel he feels he’s bigger than the court,” the source said.

The insider went on to characterize the perceived approach as one in which the party leadership would comply with the court process only on its own terms.

“I’m just doing these guys a favor by giving them what they want type of thing. But I’m gonna give it to them on my terms,” the insider said.

The source further alleged that the atmosphere reflected an unwillingness to allow certain individuals to challenge or question the leadership during the Central Committee meeting.

“You’re not gonna come in my CC meeting and try to ask any questions, because I’m not gonna allow you to,” the insider said, characterizing what they believed was the attitude displayed during the meeting.

The comments represent the account and interpretation of one PLP insider who spoke to TNN.

TNN has not independently verified every allegation made during the conversation.

The comments come as the PLP continues to navigate an internal leadership and membership dispute that has already reached the courts, with further proceedings expected this week.
