Health Minister pleased with COVID-19 Vaccination Efforts

“I am quite pleased with the success of the recent COVID-19 and influenza vaccination campaign,” said Minister of Health, Kim Wilson, JP, MP, “The demand was overwhelming, and I extend my gratitude to the dedicated team at the Hamilton Health Clinic for their tireless efforts in ensuring that everyone who wanted the vaccine had the opportunity to receive it. All available appointments were booked, but efforts are ongoing to ensure everyone can access the COVID-19 vaccine.

The Ministry of Health received 5,760 adult doses and 2,880 pediatric doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Although the initial appointment schedule is fully booked, the Department of Health is actively working to create additional appointment slots. The Ministry of Health is offering COVID-19 vaccine doses to General Practitioners at no charge for those who express interest.

Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Shaun Ramroop, praised the operational efficiency of the Hamilton Health Clinic during his recent visit. “The clinic vaccinated over 200 individuals by 1 pm, exceeding the number of scheduled appointments. I must commend the team for their outstanding performance.”

The COVID-19 vaccine is available free of charge and prioritized for residents at an increased risk of severe illness, meeting eligibility criteria such as being aged 65 or older, having chronic conditions, being healthcare or essential service workers, or living with someone with a weakened immune system (aged 12 to 64).

Additionally, the influenza vaccination is recommended for individuals aged 12 and older. Those under 12 requiring influenza vaccination should consult their physician. The influenza vaccine is free for individuals aged 65 and older, while those aged 12 to 64 may incur a $20 fee.
