The Minister of Health, the Hon. Kim Wilson, JP, MP, encourages all residents to get a flu shot to help contain the risks of influenza in the upcoming season.
Minister Wilson received her annual flu shot recently and said: “I get the flu vaccine every year as soon as it is available. I know this vaccine is safe and effective in preventing most flu cases, and it will protect me, my family, my friends and our community.
“In some people, the flu infection can be quite serious and may increase their risk of developing complications, such as pneumonia. While the coronavirus and the flu symptoms are similar, the flu vaccine and the COVID-19 vaccination are different. The flu and COVID-19 vaccines are designed to protect against the specific viruses that cause their respective illnesses. As we gear up for flu season, and with the coronavirus still in our community, I strongly suggest people get both for the best protection.”
The seasonal influenza (flu) vaccine is available for priority groups through their doctor or the Flu Express. The Flu Express is for persons 12 years and older. The cost is $15.00 per shot for adults and children – cash only or pay online. Seniors (65 and older) are FREE. Please have the correct amount of cash ready during your attendance at the “Flu Express” if you do not pay online. (Credit/Debit card facilities will not be available at the “Flu Express” sites).
The public can fill out the consent form and pay online for the flu vaccine to minimise paperwork on arrival and reduce wait times by going to https://www.gov.bm/https://forms.gov.bm/Influenza-Vaccine-Consent. An email will be sent to you and is required to be shown when you arrive for vaccination. If you cannot fill out the consent form online, you can fill it out at the Flu Express location.
