‘He Was My Baby’: Grieving Mother Remembers Rickai “Pugi” Raynor

‘He Insisted I Come’: Mother Shares Final Moments Before Son’s Fatal Boating Accident

For Karen Adams, Sunday began as a day she would cherish forever. It ended in unimaginable heartbreak.

Speaking exclusively with TNN News, the grieving mother of Rickai “Pugi” Raynor shared the emotional details of what would become the last day she spent with her son before he tragically lost his life in a boating accident.

Fighting back tears throughout the interview, Adams recalled that attending her son’s race was something she rarely did. This time, however, he insisted she be there.

“I usually don’t like to go to the races,” she said. “But he insisted that I come and watch him.”

She described the day as beautiful, spending time with Rickai, his girlfriend, and her family. Watching him compete made the trip worthwhile.

“He came first,” she recalled proudly, referring to the day’s opening race.

Afterward, there was some discussion surrounding activity on the course, but Rickai prepared to return for the next race.

“He came out, and he was good,” Adams said. “And then… we didn’t see him anymore.”

Moments later, while driving toward the boat tower, she noticed police and emergency vehicles racing toward the scene.

“I saw the police and everything rushing with their lights on,” she said quietly. “We got over there… and that’s all.”

Rickai Raynor leaves behind two young children, a reality that adds another layer of grief for his family.

Describing her son, Adams said he was known for his warm personality and genuine kindness.

“He was very outgoing,” she said. “A beautiful person. I never thought he had an enemy. Everybody loved him.”

She said her son was always willing to help others through both his work and everyday interactions.

“He drove water trucks. He was always serving people and doing things for people. That’s just who he was.”

As she navigates the overwhelming loss, Adams says she finds comfort in the memories he left behind.

“Looking at his pictures and videos,” she said. “He was such a happy person. Watching him brings me joy.”

She also smiled briefly while acknowledging that her son shared many of her own personality traits.

“He was kind,” she said. “Very chilled… laid-back.”

Since news of Rickai’s passing spread, social media has been flooded with tributes from friends, family members, colleagues, and members of the boating community. Adams said the outpouring of love has brought comfort during one of the darkest moments of her life.

“It’s amazing, the amount of support and encouragement people have sent—even people that I don’t even know,” she said. “I just want to thank everybody for thinking of me during this tragic loss.”

Still, no amount of support can erase the pain of losing a child.

“There is no way that I, in a million years, thought I would be one of those mothers… a mama who loses a child,” Adams said through tears. “I don’t know what to do.”

As the interview came to a close, the depth of a mother’s grief was unmistakable.

Karen Adams is now left holding onto cherished memories of a son she describes as loving, humble, and kind—a young man whose life touched countless people and whose loss is being felt across the community.

TNN News extends its deepest condolences to the Adams – Raynor families and all those mourning the loss of Rickai “Pugi” Raynor.
