Hazelden Betty Ford Licensed Addiction Counselor Returns Home

Bermudian Margaret Swift Thompson to Discuss Family Recovery from the Family Disease of Addiction and Distribute ‘Hotdogs Anonymous’ Children’s Book.

Margaret Swift Thompson, a native of Bermuda, will be returning to the island to discuss the family’s experience with the disease of addiction and the vital need for more resources for family recovery.

Thompson, a licensed counselor at Hazelden Betty Ford for 23 years, recently certified and transitioned into coaching in 2021, launching her business, Embrace Family Recovery.

While on the island, she will share her personal experiences and professional insights on how families can support themselves, thus affording their loved ones the healthiest version of themself when they want help.

Thompson hosts a popular podcast entitled ‘The Embrace Family Recovery Podcast,’ launched while visiting Bermuda in 2021 and will drop the 100th episode while on Island on April 2, 2023.

During her visit, Thompson will also meet with various non-profit organizations to distribute copies of ‘Hotdogs Anonymous,’ a children’s book by Dr. Sarah Bridges, a recent podcast guest on episodes 98 & 99.

Thompson observes, “children, the youngest family members affected by the disease of addiction, are often the last to receive help. Sadly, this leaves them trying to sort out this complex disease for themselves and mostly blaming themselves for the family chaos.” Dr. Bridges was excited about getting her book to Bermuda, donating 15 copies, and is available for comment.

Thompson stated, “I am honored to have the opportunity to return to my home country and share this valuable resource, generously donated by Dr. Sarah Bridges. Addiction affects the person struggling with the disease and their families, friends, and colleagues. I hope that by sharing my experiences, I can help others find the strength and courage to seek help and support.”
