A 23-year-old Hamilton Parish man appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday facing charges of unlawful damage, possession of a bladed article, and uttering threatening words.
Iazyah Arruda Stevens pleaded not guilty to the three offences, which allegedly occurred on May 25, 2026, in Hamilton Parish.
The court heard allegations that Stevens was in possession of a bladed article, namely a machete with a cutting edge exceeding three inches, without lawful authority.
He was also charged with unlawfully damaging property belonging to Lee Stevens, understood to be his father, causing damage estimated at $765.
The third charge alleged that Stevens uttered threatening words to the complainant, reportedly stating: “I will burn this house down.”
Stevens was granted bail in the amount of $10,000 with a surety. As part of his bail conditions, he must have no contact with the complainant and is required to report to Hamilton Police Station between Tuesdays and Saturdays between the hours of 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.
He is expected to return to court at a later date.
