Hamilton CEO is Happy with Mayor and Council Elected by the People

As the Chief Executive Officer and Secretary of the Corporation of Hamilton, Dwayne Caines is responsible for making sure that everything in the city runs smoothly and effectively.

In an interview with TNN, he said that he is very happy with the democratically elected group that is currently in place to run Hamilton which is separate from the Government.

“ If the electorate wanted to move to having a Government-appointed city council, I think that should be the voice of the people; the strongest voice in any democracy, after all, is the voice of the people,” Mr. Caines said.

“ If the people want an appointed leadership of the city, that should happen only through a referendum for the area if that is what they think should happen.”

Mr. Caines believes that the Corporation does certain things within the city, such as collecting the trash every day, for example, that is the envy of the rest of the island. Bearing that in mind, he believes that the people should be left to do what they do best.

“ Let’s focus on education, transportation, tourism and putting Bermudians to work,” he said. “ Let’s focus on the things that are critical for Bermuda to thrive. Let the Corporation manage the city while the country focuses on where its deficiencies might be.”————————————————————————Any content which is considered unsuitable, unlawful, or offensive, includes personal details, advertises or promotes products, services or websites, or repeats previous comments will be removed.
