“We are listening, and we are acting to build a better Bermuda with fairness, opportunity and care for all,” said the Premier, the Hon. David Burt, JP, MP.
The public will recall that in July, during his “Address to Bermuda”, the Premier, pledged that “your government will focus its efforts on implementing additional ways in which it can intervene to provide more relief for you and your family.”
The Premier also shared that “when the House of Assembly resumes in September, we will present a mid-year budget review containing measures that will deliver a meaningful difference in the lives of Bermudians now.”
Today, Premier Burt announced that the Government is preparing to invest additional funds to address critical social issues through a set of significant initiatives that will be introduced in the House of Assembly on Friday.
As Bermuda’s economy continues to show progress on many fronts, the Premier emphasised that many Bermudians still feel left behind, however d the government is committed to ensuring that the benefits of economic growth and increased tax revenue are invested to address pressing social needs.
“We are listening,” Premier Burt said. “Even though there is much progress and much going right with Bermuda, not enough Bermudians feel the benefits of our growing economy. We are committed to changing that. In my address to Bermuda in July, I said that Ministers would be working throughout the summer to bring a package that meets the community’s need for additional resources to tackle anti-social behaviour and confront a mental health crisis. The people of Bermuda will now see the results and reap the benefits of that work.”
Key areas of focus will include increasing investment in public safety, enhancing support for mental health and community services, providing additional resources for educators and social workers, and investing in care for our seniors. Premier Burt stressed that these efforts are essential to improving the daily lives of Bermudians and ensuring a more equitable society.
The Premier reiterated that these initiatives are part of the Government’s broader strategy to ensure that the benefits of Bermuda’s progress are shared by all, not just a few.
“We are focused on real solutions that improve the everyday lives of Bermudians,” he said. “From supporting the most vulnerable in our community to improving public safety and mental health support, we are working to build a better Bermuda with fairness, opportunity and care for all.”
The full agenda will be revealed when Parliament reconvenes on September 20th and 27th(respectively), when the Cabinet will outline the specific measures the Government will implement as part of the Mid-Year Review. In the meantime, Bermudians are encouraged to stay engaged and informed as the Government continues to prioritise the issues that matter most to them.
The Premier concluded, “Our goal is simple: to make sure that Bermuda’s success is felt by all Bermudians, and we will not stop until we achieve this vision.”
