Government Celebrates The Achievement of Bermuda’s Young Peer-Forward Participants

Please be advised that the incoming flight from Rochester, NY has been cancelled.

The Peer-forward students and accompanying team will arrive at LFW Airport, tomorrow, Tuesday, June 16th on United flight 1985 at 1:35pm.

The Bermuda Government is proud to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of 18 students (8 CedarBridge Academy/8 Berkeley Institute/2 Interns) who recently attended the Peer-Forward program at Nazareth University in Rochester, New York. The S4 students, along with guidance counselors, college coaches, and Mirrors team members, participated in the transformative and empowering experience from July 10-14.

Peer-Forward is an initiative to leverage the power of peer influence to enhance college preparation and enrollment for all public school S4 students. The program provided extensive training on effective leadership, advocacy, college preparation, and scholarship opportunities. It focused on helping students understand their motivations and readiness for college, empowering them to support their peers in their journey towards acceptance into college. The ultimate goal is to foster a culture of college and career readiness in schools across Bermuda.

During the workshop, each student received personalized college coaching sessions and left with a list of 10 potential colleges and their first draft personal statement.

Mirrors Program Manager, Kim Jackson stated, “This invaluable guidance will assist them in making informed decisions about their future academic pursuits. The Peer-Forward participants also had the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the college environment, joining 75 other senior students from across the United States. This experience allowed them to gain a firsthand understanding of college life and further solidify their aspirations for higher education. We are very proud of them.”

The Minister of Youth, Social Development, and Seniors, Minister Tinee Furbert, will be on hand to welcome the students home on Monday, July 15th, 1:35pm at the LF Wade airport. Minister Furbert extends a warm invitation to the media to attend this occasion and capture the students’ firsthand testimonies of their transformative experiences.

Minister Furbert stated, “Despite the recent tragic events involving some of their peers, the Peer Leaders displayed tremendous resilience and determination, remaining focused on their goals and achieving remarkable success. Their dedication to their personal growth is truly commendable. The Bermuda Government applauds the efforts of all the Peer Leaders who exemplify the spirit of resilience, leadership, and dedication that we strive to instill in all our young people. I look forward to welcoming them home on Monday and celebrating their success.”
