Earlier this week (November 4), the Hon. Crystal Caesar, JP, MP, Minister of the Cabinet Office, welcomed chairs, union partners, and technical officers to a training session on interest-based bargaining.
Representatives from the Bermuda Industrial Union (BIU), Bermuda Public Services Union (BPSU), Prison Officers Association (POA), Fire Services Association (FSA), Bermuda Police Association (BPA), and Bermuda Union of Teachers (BUT), along with the Government Negotiation Chairs and their technical teams engaged in the two-day training session. Interest-based bargaining focuses on mutual gains and collaborative problem-solving, fostering cooperation, reducing conflicts, and achieving sustainable agreements.
The training session was intended to help participants identify key interests and concerns, setting a strong foundation for upcoming negotiations.
Minister Caesar said, “This session marked the beginning of a constructive and collaborative negotiation season. We met with a shared purpose to engage in negotiations that are fair and forward-thinking.
“Our government is committed to entering into new negotiations with all our union partners, recognizing the importance of maintaining strong and productive relationships.”
The Minister encouraged all participants to use the opportunity to engage fully, ask questions, and share insights, paving the way for transparent, equitable, and beneficial negotiations for the government and its union partners.
