With less than four weeks left until the start of the 2021-22 school year, Gina Spence Productions’ ninth annual Sponsor-A-Child back to school drive is in full gear. According to Dr. Gina Spence, founder and president of Gina Spence Productions, the need this year is greater than most years.
“ We are really calling on the community to help us sponsor a child,” Dr. Spence said. “ There are still a lot of [Bermudian parents] who are out of work and who do not have disposable cash.” It costs $130 to get a child fully dressed for the first day of school, including the actual uniform items.”
Last year, the program helped over 1200 students across the island. Dr. Spence believes that the drive could meet that goal again if everyone who contributes could sponsor one child. It costs $130 to get a child fully dressed for the first day of school.
