Gabrielle Cann Appointed Director of Labour

Today the Head of the Public Service (HoPS) Cherie Whitter announced the appointment of Ms. Gabrielle Cann to the post of Director of Labour.

 As the Director of Labour, Ms Cann will work under the direction of the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Economy and Labour.

 Ms. Cann has worked in a variety of capacities in labour relations for over ten (10) years. In her current capacity as Director, Ms. Cann is responsible for providing guidance and direction to a team of labour relations officers and inspectors. She is also responsible for overseeing the certification and decertification of unions in the workplace, managing labour disputes in both unionised and non-unionised environments, and providing dispute resolution and prevention oversight.

 She is also responsible for advising the Minister of Economy and Labour on related policy matters.

 Before joining the Government of Bermuda, Ms. Cann worked as an attorney in the private sector and was a Past-President of the Young Business and Professional Women’s Association of Bermuda.

 Gabrielle Cann is a Mount Saint Agnes alumnus and a graduate of the Hampton School (Jamaica). She possesses a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law (UK), a Bachelor of Law from Coventry University (UK) and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Psychology (minor) from the University of the West Indies (Mona Campus).
