From the Field: Two Lives Transformed Through UCS Bermuda

Among the many success stories to emerge from UCS Bermuda, two young men stand out for their commitment, growth, and leadership—Shannon Dill and Justin Cameron. Both are currently working with Greymane Construction, applying their training in real-world settings and setting examples for others looking to build a better future.

Shannon Dill: Applying Skill with Purpose

Shannon entered the UCS Bermuda program looking to deepen his knowledge in construction. What he found was more than just training—he found a purpose.

“I must say, this course has helped me a lot in terms of gaining knowledge in the field I’m in. It’s been very beneficial, especially applying my skill set to what we do daily on-site,” Shannon shared.

Under the guidance of seasoned instructors like Mr. Kevin Bean, Shannon honed his carpentry skills and gained an appreciation for both the safety and structure of quality work.

“The teachers are excellent. They make sure we understand the tools, equipment, and the importance of safety. Being around people with real insight—people who’ve done this for years—has been a game-changer for me.”

Shannon’s growth isn’t just technical; it’s personal. His ultimate goal is to pass along what he’s learned to others following in his footsteps. He’s already thinking like a mentor.

Justin Cameron: From Courtroom to Construction Site

Justin Cameron’s journey to UCS Bermuda wasn’t a straight line—it was a second chance.

“Life hasn’t been easy,” Justin admits. “I had beaten my case—I was facing a few years in jail. I knew I had to make a change.”

That change began with a simple step: checking the Bermuda Job Board daily. That’s where he discovered the Basic Safety Program through Workforce Development—an opportunity that would lead him into the UCS Core Program, and eventually, a job with Hard & Sewell Construction, followed by Greymane.

“I found my path in construction,” he says. “It became my passion—something I really wanted to do. And now, it’s rewarding. I take pride in seeing walls I’ve built, showing my family, and saying, I did that.”

But for Justin, this is just the beginning. He’s working toward owning his own construction business, with a mission not just to build structures—but to build up the next generation.

“I’ve been down that road. I can show the younger ones—it’s not worth it. The best thing I ever did was go to work, find a trade, and change my life. That’s what I want to help others do.”

Legacy in Action

Students like Shannon and Justin are the reason UCS Bermuda exists. Their stories remind us that trades aren’t just jobs—they’re vehicles of transformation, tools of purpose, and pathways to pride. These young men came into the program seeking skills. They left with vision.
