Friends of Hope Academy Raises Funds for DMBHA

Dame Marjorie Bean Hope Academy (DAME) is proud to announce the successful raising of $25,000 through recent community events, showcasing the power of collaboration, empowerment, and advocacy.

The vibrant Sports Day 2024 and the inspiring May 24th Team Hope initiative highlight the support and commitment of our community to our mission of serving students with severe to profound multiple learning disabilities and complex care needs.

“The $25,000 raised is a testament to the strength and unity of our community,” said Margaret Phillips, Principal of DMBHA. “Collaboration, empowerment, and advocacy are three of our school values that form the foundation of our mission and the driving force behind everything we do. Together, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of our students and fostering a community where everyone can thrive.”

Ms Phillips added, “The leadership team, faculty, and staff at DAME extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to these events. The success of Sports Day and Team Hope highlights the power of collective effort and the unwavering commitment of our community to support our school and its mission. DAME looks forward to celebrating more milestones and continuing its journey of support and inclusion.”

Sports Day 2024 was a remarkable success, bringing together students, staff, parents, and visitors in inclusive and joyous sporting events. Our dedicated Adaptive P.E. teachers and the innovative Sports Day Committee designed activities such as adapted relay races and sensory obstacle courses, ensuring every student could participate and shine. The involvement of enthusiastic parents, who supported, volunteered, and cheered, added to the collaborative spirit, turning the day into a heartwarming celebration of student abilities and achievements.

On May 24th, the school community united for the Team Hope initiative, a key fundraising effort organized by Friends of Hope Academy. This year, 49 participants ran for Team Hope, with some taking turns to push two of our students in the relay, exemplifying the spirit of empowerment and advocacy. At the finish line, participants were greeted by a lively tent hosted by staff, parents, board members, and volunteers, offering refreshments, including homemade baked goods, granola bars, and protein bars, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose.

Thanks to the collective effort, Team Hope has raised an impressive $25,000, with additional pledges still being collected.
