Westgate, Bermuda — For the second time in just one week, the Westgate Correctional Facility has once again come under the spotlight following a serious incident within its walls.
TNN has learned that shortly before 7:00 p.m. this evening, an inmate housed in the maximum security section of the prison suffered a suspected fentanyl overdose.
According to reliable sources, medics were urgently called to the facility, where the inmate was found unresponsive. Emergency responders administered Narcan—a life-saving drug used to counteract the effects of opioid overdose—and successfully resuscitated the individual. The inmate was then transported by ambulance to the hospital for further observation.
This marks the latest in a troubling series of events at Westgate. Just last week, TNN reported on an inmate who violently assaulted five corrections officers, prompting concerns over safety protocols within the facility. Tonight’s overdose adds to the growing scrutiny surrounding the prison, particularly regarding the circulation of dangerous substances like fentanyl—even in the maximum security area.
Sources within the prison are calling for urgent intervention. “There needs to be a full overhaul of Westgate,” one insider told TNN. “This isn’t the first time an inmate has overdosed, and it won’t be the last unless something is done. The entire facility needs to be reviewed, from security to staffing to drug prevention.”
With pressure mounting and public safety at stake, calls for a formal investigation into the conditions and operations at Bermuda’s only maximum security prison are intensifying.
