BCCL is challenging Bermuda to join the school for its annual February Freeze, Take the Plunge for Pancakes fundraiser. Pledgers will raise funds and plunge into the freezing water on the morning of Friday, February 17th, 2023, at 10:00 am.
The fundraiser aims to raise $10,000 this
year for the school’s tuition bursary program, which supports the education of students with learning differences who ordinarily would be unable to engage in a specialized learning
experience.
Cindy Corday, head of school says: “This is our third year for the February Freeze. The idea for having the Pancake Lunch originated from our Student Council members to motivate their peers
to participate. We are pleased that Jon Brunson, Director of Take Five Limited and Bermuda Centre for Creative Learning Foundation Trustee, supports this event and is providing lunch for
students.”
The Bermuda Centre for Creative Learning (BCCL) began in 2015 and is a private school recognized by the Bermuda Ministry of Education for children starting at age six who are
struggling in the traditional school setting. Most students have been assessed and diagnosed with dyslexia, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), or other language-based learning differences. BCCL is the only school in Bermuda to enroll students who learn differently.
The Bermuda Educators Council licenses all teachers. BCCL continually researches and applies evidence-based ‘best-teaching’ practices. They understand that teacher effectiveness ties directly to student learning. Teachers personalize
students’ learning, constantly tracking the concepts they retain, and students can move year levels, when they are ready throughout the school year.
Lindsey Sirju, deputy head of school says: “Over 50% of our families receive a bursary.
The donations raised during the February Freeze will help support students who would otherwise
have to leave Bermuda to receive the personalized instruction they need. We are grateful for the generosity of the community to champion students who think and learn differently.”
