The Free Democratic Movement (FDM) has formally submitted a complaint to the Chairman of the Broadcast Commission today regarding the recent actions of HOTT 1027’s morning show.
The complaint centers on the Progressive Labour Party’s C-36 candidate, Rev. Dr. Emilygail Dill, who was featured in a political broadcast on the station without equal opportunity being extended to other candidates.
The One Bermuda Alliance (OBA), the Independent candidate Cire Bean, and the FDM candidate have not been given the same invitation to air their views, as is required by law.
Rayki Bascome-Emery Chairman of the FDM filed the complaint on behalf of the FDM, which has been sent to the Chairman of the Broadcast Commission the Hon. Michael Scott.
Bellow is the official complaint letter sent to the Broadcast Commission.
“I write to you today as a matter of urgency regarding broadcast made today on Magic 102.7’s morning show “Health is wealth”.
As you are aware, there is a by-election in constituency 36 (C36)Sandy’s North this Friday 4th of October.
Today’s broadcast included the Rev Dr. Emily Gail Dill who is the candidate for the Progressive Labor Party in the upcoming by-election. During the broadcast the interviewer stated that “Rev Dill will be on here Friday morning as well (sic)”.
We find this to be unethical as neither Free Democratic Movement, One Bermuda Alliance, nor independent candidate Cire’ Bean were invited to be interviewed on this station during the time that “Health is wealth” is aired, known as “the morning rush”, when majority of listeners are listening to this station.
Furthermore, it will not be possible to have the remaining three candidates interviewed during this time period on this station before Friday’s by-election.
It is because of this that we write to you to intervene under Section 8(3) of the Broadcasting Communications Act and restrict Interisland Communications from hosting any political broadcast during “the morning rush” as Friday’s broadcast will not be impartial and fair with respect to the C36 by-election.”
