During this past week, the Extended Hands Foundation hosted a back-to-school community give back. TNN’s Trevor Lindsay spoke with one of the Foundation’s members.
“ A group of friends and I got together and we wanted to give back to the community, so we tried to figure out what we could do and ultimately went with a back-to-school giveaway,” they explained. “ [The foundation] put some funds together and gave away some pencils, pens, erasers, rulers, gift vouchers to Boyle’s shoe store and some haircuts.”
Pride Family Farms also joined the foundation and gave away some food vouchers, which they were very grateful for.
“The whole purpose [of the giveback] is to give back to the community and show them that we can come together for the kids, because it takes a village to raise a kid,” the spokesperson said. “ Some of us have had a dark background, but as time passed we’ve matured and we have made change, so if we could continue to help those underneath us, then we are happy. It brought joy to my heart to know that we can make a change.”
According to Extended Hands, the giveaway event had a very full turnout and was complete with fun castles, face painting and fresh-baked pastries and doughnuts.
“ It is our intention to hold this event again, but we will take it slow,” they said. “ As long as we have each other and help from others, there is no reason why we cannot do this again.”
Extended Hands would like to thank their sponsors: Pride Family Farms, the Spinning Wheel, Interior and Exterior Flooring and Maintenance, Anytime Taxi, MIR Trucking and Maintenance and Interactive Entertainment.
“ Extended Hands is more like a brotherhood [than some back-of-town organization],” they said. “ We came together as brothers and wanted to make a change.”
