Tracey Berkeley, the embattled CEO of the Bermuda Tourism Authority (BTA), has allegedly cleared her office amid mounting pressure following a scathing review of the organization’s workplace culture. Berkeley who joined the BTA in January 2020 was appointed CEO in March 2023, faced significant challenges during her tenure, culminating in a “disappointing failing grade” from the board regarding the organization’s internal environment.
The recent review was commissioned after an alarming exodus of staff, with over 20 employees departing the BTA in the past two and a half years. The findings revealed a troubling perception among employees, who described the workplace culture as unprofessional, domineering, and lacking in accountability and trust.
Former CEO, Charles Jeffers II, has reportedly emerged as a front-runner to succeed Berkeley. Jeffers previously led the organization before Berkeley’s appointment and is viewed by some as a potential stabilizing force in the wake of recent turmoil.
TNN has reached out to Tourism Minister, Owen Darrell for comment on Ms. Berkeley’s supposed departure. Meanwhile an emergency meeting to discuss the situation surrounding the BTA is said to have been called for tomorrow, Monday, 31st March. We will provide updates on this developing situation as they become available.
