Elizabeth Christopher Reprimanded for Profane Remark

While Magistrate Tyrone Chin was getting the contact information for five persons who pleaded guilty to breaching curfew on Saturday, February 14, Thursday morning in Magistrate’s Court, defense attorney and head of the Bermuda Bar Association Elizabeth Christopher remarked, presumably referring to an unrelated incident, “this s***show is a slow-moving train.”

Ms. Christopher then told Magistrate Chin that the outburst was not intended or in relation towards the court or what was being said or done during that session and immediately apologized for the remark.

“ It doesn’t matter [that it was not directed towards the court; as the President of the Bermuda Bar Association, that is abominable,” Magistrate Chin told Ms. Christopher. “ Your behavior was repugnant.”

Magistrate Chin subsequently reprimanded her for the remark.
