The year is 2007. It is Earth Day. Over 250 primary school students decide to write letters expressing their thoughts on the environment and how to protect their home island of Bermuda, and the world.
At that time, the Minister of the Environment was Dr. the Hon. D. Neletha Butterfield. Not only did the minister read and respond to each student’s letter, she kept and preserved them for over 15 years. These students’ expressions are a testament to the future of our world, but also to the past.
Earth Day Expressions from the SOUL gives us a peek into the minds of young people and their relationship to the Earth. What are their hopes, their dreams, their wishes for this place we call home? The students of Warwick Academy Primary School expressed themselves well. Read and reflect on your own role in protecting the Earth.
