Duffy was among the leaders for the entire race, coming out of the water sixth before immediately stamping here authority on the proceedings after transitioning to the bike portion.
Duffy showed her might carrying the leadership load, pacing the field even as while others preferred to draft in hopes of preserving energy for the run portion.
But if anyone thought Duffy might relent after a taxing cycle section they were greatly mistaken as she went from strength to strength, putting in an immediate and amazing surge to commence the run.
Long before the final lap it was clear the day belonged to Duffy, a two-time world champion but lacking a ideal of race preparation as did her rivals due to Covid’s curtailing of competition opportunities.

Duffy finally broke her stoicism producing a gleeful smile as she came down the final straight, collapsing in deserved amazement at a feat many years in the making.
Duffy clocked 1:55:36 in stunning the world and carrying not only herself, but an entire island into the stratosphere of Olympic superstardom.
Duffys’s achievement brought the first major Olympic success since Clarence Hill’s bronze medal attained at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Canada while competing in boxing’s Heavyweight division.
