Dr. Tim Jackson Appointed Executive Director of IMPACT Mentoring Academy

IMPACT Mentoring Academy (Charity #835) (IMA) is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Timothy Jackson as Executive Director for the 2021/2022 academic year, commencing September 2021.

Dr. Jackson, a veteran educator and instructional leader, has several decades of experience, in various educational capacities, in both the US and Bermuda. In Bermuda, he served as a teacher at Whitney Institute and Deputy Principal at CedarBridge Academy. From 2007 to 2016, Dr. Jackson served as Principal of Sandys Secondary Middle School. Most recently, in 2019, Dr. Jackson was appointed the Chairman of the Bermuda Board of Education.

In his capacity as Executive Director at IMA, Dr. Jackson will oversee curriculum design, instructional delivery, staff development, and will liaise with the Finance Committee of the Board in Fundraising activities.

IMA Board Chairman, Calvin White, states: “Dr. Jackson is an excellent fit to lead the institution, as his significant academic, educational administrative, and instructional experience will enable IMA to enhance the quality of curriculum offering and delivery to our student body.”

Board Chairman White continues: “As an existing member of the IMA Board of Directors, Dr. Jackson is well acquainted with the ethos and objectives of the school. By leveraging his educational leadership experience and his own mentoring expertise, he will provide unparalleled guidance to the school and mentoring to our students.”

Dr. Jackson adds: “I have had the benefit of being mentored by several persons who have been very influential in my life. As a result, I am well aware of the benefits that mentoring can contribute to a person’s development, particularly to young males, and therefore I am passionate about mentorship as a key component to unlock the potential of every student.”
Additionally, Dr. Jackson’s experience as a successful businessman will bring great benefit to IMA’s Industry (internship and apprenticeship) programs. Board Chairman White comments: “Dr. Jackson’s entrepreneurial enterprise will enhance the ability of the school to fulfill its mandate of having every student ready for tertiary education or the workplace, as they are deployed into their designed destiny.”

Speaking on his reasons for joining IMA, Dr. Jackson comments: “I am delighted to join the IMPACT Mentoring Academy family. As an educator of more than 25 years, I am impressed with the philosophy of IMPACT Mentoring Academy, which is lead by the belief that every student is created with unique potential and designed destiny. The ultimate goal is to address the needs of the whole student – the academic, social, emotional and spiritual needs.”

“I’m looking forward to harnessing all of my practical experience, theoretical experience, and my expertise in education for the greater good of each and every student that walks through IMA’s doors. I’m excited to work with the teachers, the parents, and board members, in a collaborative effort, to ensure that all of our students have the tools necessary to be successful, positive, productive citizens here in Bermuda, and throughout the world, also preparing them for the workforce, if they so choose, immediately upon graduation, or for tertiary education.”

Dr. Jackson continues, commenting on the goals he has in mind for IMA: “One of my immediate goals is to take a serious look at our curriculum, to ensure that it has rigor and relevance, and is preparing our students to compete, not only locally, but, more importantly, globally. I want to ensure that our students will have the necessary skills to be admitted to the colleges and universities of their choosing. We want to raise the bar a couple more notches to ensure that all stakeholders of IMPACT Mentoring Academy have high expectations for our students, because, when you have high expectations, students know that and they tend to meet or exceed your expectation, so long as we have the right support mechanisms and expertise in place.”

Dr. Jackson concludes: “So, I am delighted. I am excited. Just having conversations with board members has energized me. I look forward to bringing a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to the school, and I’m looking to add value to the lives of our students. It’s a wonderful time  to be a part of this great institution.”

Principal Shayne Scott, who has led IMA for the past two years, will be leaving the school this summer. The Board joins parents and students in extending its heartfelt thanks to Mr. Scott for his commitment and passion for student development and active mentoring, particularly during the transition to an on-line instructional format.  We are grateful for the “guidance from heart” that Mr. Scott brought to IMA, notes Chairman White, “and we wish him well in his future endeavours.”
