Today the prosecution have said that the case against me will not be pursued in the following terms:
“The DPP have filed a Nolle Prosequi in the case against Hon. Zane DeSilva MP as it is no longer in the public interest to
prosecute the case where some of the money Mr Blakey/Savvy Ltd obtained by deception from the Bermuda Government has been recovered.”
I have always maintained my complete innocence of this allegation, that
has now been vindicated. On 8 January 2018 I loaned my lifelong friend,
Kevin Smith $200,000, some of which he invested, in what turns out to be a wholly spurious project advanced by Blakey/Savvy.
When Blakey defaulted on the loan Kevin asked me to recover it for him: I threatened to sue Blakey and he repaid $100,000. It is now clear to me that this is
tainted money emanating from Blakey’s nefarious activities. I do not want that money.
This charlatan, Blakey, inveigled his way into the lives of many Bermudians, known and unknown, and obtained millions of dollars by conning people into believing he was bona fides. He was not and has hitherto resisted all attempts to be extradited to Bermuda. He lived a
lavish lifestyle on the backs of hard-working Bermudians and institutions.
He needs to be caught and stopped and I shall continue to do all I can to assist in that enterprise.
I am of course very pleased that this is now behind me for everyone’s sake and I can get on with looking after my constituents and the issues
facing Bermuda.
