Dog Vaccination Drive Against Canine Parvovirus – West End Site

In support of the Bermuda Veterinary Association, the Ministry of Home Affairs continues its campaign to protect unvaccinated dogs against the parvovirus that is currently circulating the Island.

The second clinic will be held at the Fairmont Southampton Hotel front entrance on Sunday, September 5, 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.

The purpose of these clinics is to vaccinate as many unvaccinated dogs and puppies as possible to stem the current parvovirus outbreak. This clinic will be arranged as a drive-through. Following registration, a very cursory examination will ensure the animal is fit to be vaccinated. Following this, the dog will get vaccinated, and the owner will be on their way. The cost is $25.

As a reminder, the vaccine is for prevention only; it is not a treatment for unwell dogs. While no vaccine is 100% effective, this Canine parvovirus vaccine has proven its efficiency and low risk of side effects for dogs.

It is vital that no dog experiencing vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, or pregnant dogs, be brought to the vaccine clinics. Dog owners should instead seek guidance from a veterinary professional of their choice. Please also note that there will be no opportunity to discuss other veterinary matters that may concern you, i.e. flea control, deworming, nutrition, behavioural issues, etc. For these issues, it is advisable to seek a veterinary professional.

The Ministry of Home Affairs continues to thank all of the volunteers from veterinary practices, the SPCA and the Island’s dog clubs who have come together to create these opportunities to protect our dogs.

All owners of unvaccinated dogs & puppies, whether legal, illegal, licensed or unlicensed, are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity.
