Disgraced lawyer sentenced to 15 years in prison

Attorney Tyrone Quinn, who last November was convicted of stealing $483,000 meant as compensation payments for his clients, has been sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment.

The prosecution had originally requested a sentence totalling 17 years for Quinn, who told the court during his trial, that he fully intended to repay the money.

Quinn told the court he had been approached by individuals who demanded compensation for an illegal business transaction.

He said he did not know these people or the situation involved, but after they threatened the safety of both his family and himself, he used his clients money to pay these individuals as well as make payments on their behalf.

Prosecutor Alan Richards, accused Quinn of fabricating the story about threats being made against him and that the accused had robbed Peter to pay Paul, having admitted to using some of the funds to pay settlements to other clients.

Mr. Richard’s read out victim impact statements in a previous sentencing hearing.

Speaking about Quinn, one of those victims, Jenna Riley said in her statement, “He was supposed to act in my best interests, but all he has done is use my pain for his own selfish interests”
