Devonshire Man Pleads Guilty to Dangerous Driving Charges in Fatal Crash

A 30-year-old man has admitted responsibility for a deadly crash that claimed the life of a young woman and left another seriously injured.

Calin Maybury, of Devonshire, appeared in Supreme Court yesterday, where he pled guilty to two of the five charges against him causing death by dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily harm by dangerous driving. His plea was entered before Supreme Court Justice Juan Wolfe.

The fatal crash occurred on July 28, 2022, around midnight on South Shield Road. It is believed that Maybury was driving dangerously when he struck two young women traveling in the opposite direction. The collision resulted in the tragic death of 22-year-old Troni Burgess-Robinson and left 21-year-old Jaaziah Richardson Webb critically injured. Webb was placed in intensive care for seven days as a result of the crash.

Maybury, who had been facing multiple charges, was released on $25,000 bail following his guilty plea. He is set to return to Supreme Court on May 1st for the monthly arraignment session, at which time a sentencing date will be determined.

The court has yet to hear full details of the incident, including whether alcohol or excessive speed played a role in the collision. However, with his guilty plea, Maybury has admitted to dangerous driving as the cause of the tragedy.

Burgess-Robinson’s family and loved ones continue to grieve the loss of a young life cut short, while Webb has endured a long road to recovery. With sentencing on the horizon, the court will determine what consequences Maybury will face for his actions that night.

The courts will hear that Maybury was  involved in a previous road fatality collision ten years ago.
