Deputy Premier and Minister of Home Affairs at Island Finance Forum 2023

“It was an honour to deliver opening remarks at the Island Finance Forum opening event”, said Deputy Premier and Minister of Home Affairs Walter Roban, following his participation alongside other dignitaries speaking at the Island Finance Forum 2023 virtual opening event.

The Deputy Premier spoke of the invaluable opportunities that Island communities have to come together to share ideas and work across the globe on solutions that are particularly important to the global Island community. He acknowledged that although in the North Atlantic, Bermuda is  not immune to the issues faced around climate change and that the Government and the community are aware of the concerns and how it’s impacting Island communities.

The Deputy Premier also spoke of the need for creativity, especially concerning financing options to help transition all communities, especially island ones, towards increasing sustainable green energy and development options.

Minister Roban said: “I was able to share how Bermuda is transitioning from fossil fuels to making renewable energy our primary source of generating power, considering the sustainable use of our ocean resources, and developing strategies to secure the necessary financing.”

The Island Finance Forum 2023 is being held over three days, and the opening virtual session is available online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ts2dq_8eq0.
