The Bermuda Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, today announced that the 25th Annual Children’s Reading Festival (CRF) will be held on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, at Victoria Park in Hamilton from 11 AM to 4 PM. The unforgettable day will celebrate literacy and creativity in our community.
The Annual Children’s Reading Festival is designed for children up to age 14, including infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. All children will receive a free book, drink, popcorn, and backpack. The entire family is invited for a day filled with inspiring activities that encourage a love for reading.
The purpose of the Children’s Reading Festival is three-fold: to encourage children to find joy in reading, to inspire imagination and creativity through fine arts, and to provide access to resources for parents, ensuring continued support for students long after the festival concludes.
This year, The Bermuda Alumnae Chapter is excited to expand the festival’s activities to include children with support needs. There will be a sign language interpreter, sensory-friendly zones equipped with adaptive toys, and dedicated volunteers to provide assistance.
Shawnette Smith, President of The Bermuda Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., remarks, “The Children’s Reading Festival is not just an event; in its 25th year, it has become a vital part of our community’s fabric and a reflection of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s commitment to educational development. We are laying the groundwork for their future success by empowering our children through literacy. We believe that every child has the potential to shine and that reading opens the door to limitless possibilities.”
The Bermuda Alumnae Chapter wishes to acknowledge its main sponsor, Osisko Bermuda Limited, as well as its major contributors, including the Government of Bermuda, The Ministry of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, Triple Flag Precious Metals, and the Corporation of Hamilton.
