Deadline for Bursary Awards Saturday April 27th

The Government of Bermuda wishes to remind members of the public about the upcoming deadline for the 2024 Public Service Bursary Award Scheme; which demonstrates our commitment to investing in our people and their futures by supporting Bermuda’s youth in their educational pursuits.

The deadline for submissions is Saturday, April 27th, 2024.

The Bursary Awards identifies qualified individuals who will meet the future needs of Government Departments by seeking to attract individuals in specialized areas, in often ‘hard to fill posts’ who will play a pivotal role in the Public Service.

The bursaries are valued at $20,000 per annum; not exceeding five (5) years.

Public Health Nurse Channa McGowan, a 2018 Bursary Award Winner, expressed her appreciation for the award funding, which supported her while completing her studies.

She stated,“What I really love most about my job is that I am able to provide care and interact with people daily. I could be a community health nurse one day, …a health visitor the next day, and a sexual health nurse on Friday.

“I strongly recommend applying for the Bursary because it provided me with financial stability to finish my nursing degree at Middlesex University [United Kingdom].”

2020 Bursary Award Winner Ania Gilbert received funding from the Award Scheme to complete the final two years of her undergraduate degree at Mount Saint Vincent University, Canada.

She said, “What I love most about my job is the hands-on experience that I get in financial management and accounting. I also enjoy working with the people in my department and collaborating with them on different projects.

“I absolutely recommend the public service bursary award scheme to others because not only does it provide you with the funding but, it also allows you to get a full-time job after graduation.”

After completing her Bachelor’s degree, Ms. Gilbert was placed in the Department of Education as a Trainee Comptroller assisting staff with preparing financial reports and analyzing financial data.
