Day Two of Teacher Sick-Out at Sandys Middle School as Frustration Grows Over Education Crisis
On the second consecutive day of a teacher sick-out at Sandys Middle School, concerns are mounting across the island. Teachers and parents are speaking out, frustrated by the continued silence from the Minister of Education, the Ministry, and other top officials responsible for the school system.
Despite the disruption, there has been no official communication from the government addressing the situation. Parents and teachers alike are questioning the Premiers stance on the matter, with educators urging the government to take immediate action.
•Teachers Speak Out Despite Fear of Consequences
We can’t identify ourselves because there are consequences for speaking out against our employers, said one teacher. But we are citizens of this island, and our primary concern is the education of our children.
The educators are particularly alarmed by what they describe as a curriculum that is failing young Black students, both male and female. Something needs to be done ASAP, they stressed, emphasizing the urgent need for educational reform.
•Election Looming, Time Running Out
With just seven days remaining until the election and Friday marking the last day of this school term, teachers are pleading with voters to make education a priority at the polls.
When school resumes after the half-term break, the election will be over. Protect your children. Vote for your children. Vote for a change in this education ministry. Let your vote count, urged a group of concerned educators.
As tensions continue to rise and the silence from officials persists, the island waits to see how the government will respond to this escalating education crisis.
