David Burt is destroying our party says PLP Insiders

The departures of Kathy-Lynn Simmons, the now former Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs as well as Vance Campbell who has resigned as Minister for the Cabinet Office, may only be the start of things to come for the David Burt administration. That’s the word from PLP insiders.

Mrs. Simmons and Mr. Campbell tendered their registrations last week we understand and it’s understood other Cabinet members are set to follow suit, as part of continued efforts to force David Burt to step down as Premier.

According to our source the general concensus is that the the Progressive Labour Party cannot retain the government with Mr. Burt at the helm. That being the case, it is understood members of his Cabinet intend to relinquish their Ministerial Portfolios en masse.

In terms of possible replacements, the names Jason Hayward, the current Minister of Labour and the Economy and Curtis Dickinson, the former Minister of Finance are the ones being touted.

Whether any of this comes to fruition is of course left to be seen.

Meanwhile in response to the resignation of Mrs. Simmons and Mr. Campbell, Premier Burt stated: “Both Vance and Kathy have been valued members of the Cabinet, bringing to bear their thoughtful advice and counsel to the complex issues that confront Bermuda and which we in Government have a responsibility to address.”“Seven years after returning to Government and four years into this term, I fully understand and accept when individuals make decisions regarding their continued public service.

“This journey is not easy and takes a toll on not just the individual, but on families as well.

“I respect Vance and Kathy’s decisions at this time and cannot thank them enough for offering themselves for service and wish them both the very best for the future.”

The Premier will make an announcement later in the week on other changes to ministerial responsibilities.
