Darrin Simons COP Praises DPP In History Making Case

Darrin Simons, Commissioner of Police, commends the successful prosecution in a difficult domestic murder case, which made history due to the absence of the victim’s body.

Commissioner Simons, welcomes the court’s verdict and believes that it will bring some measure of closure for the victim’s family, despite the unsettling fact that her body has not been found.

Mr. Simons stated: “This case has been a particularly challenging one for law enforcement.”

“I wish to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of the Director of Public Prosecutions, (DPP), as well as the detectives involved in all aspects of the search, investigation, and trial.”

“Their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to justice, have resulted in this landmark conviction.”

This case began as a missing person report, and the subsequent investigation led to a murder inquiry. Despite the absence of the victim’s body, the investigation never wavered.

According to Mr. Simons: “The Bermuda Police Service is grateful for the support and resources provided by former Commissioner Stephen Corbishley, whose continued engagement and commitment were instrumental in pursuing this important case.”

Commissioner Simons emphasizes that the relentless pursuit of justice in this case should inspire hope for all victims, particularly those in abusive relationships.

He added: “It serves as a reminder that the Bermuda Police Service is deeply invested in ensuring justice is served, even in the most challenging circumstances.”

“Furthermore, it sends a clear warning to those who engage in violence, particularly against vulnerable persons, that we will tenaciously pursue those responsible.”
