Curtis Dickinson Hosts Annual Back-to-School Drive at Pier Six

Dickinson’s Annual Back-to-School Drive Draws Hundreds to Pier Six

C21 PLP Constituency and leadership contender Curtis Dickinson held his annual back-to-school drive today at Pier Six, providing school supplies, meals and other assistance to families preparing for the new school year.

The event was originally scheduled to take place at Victor Scott Primary School, but organizers moved it to Pier Six because of the weather forecast.

Dickinson said the annual initiative is about giving back to the community and offering practical support at a time when many families are facing financial pressures.

“So far, so good,” Dickinson said. “We plan to have this event every year as a way of giving back to the community and providing some level of support to constituents. Times are tough, and every little bit of help is meaningful to people.”

He said the response was strong, with the first 100 meal tickets distributed at the event quickly claimed.

“We started around noon. We had, I think, 100 tickets for meals and stuff, and all those tickets are gone. Folks have come early,” Dickinson said.

The event was scheduled to continue until approximately 4 p.m., with Dickinson saying there were still plenty of school supplies and food available for several hundred more people.

Turning to the PLP leadership race, Dickinson said he remains encouraged by the reception he has received across the island.

He said the leadership election is scheduled for October 29th and described the campaign as being roughly halfway through its 20-week process.

“We’ve been received very well. We continue to have well-attended events,” Dickinson said.

He pointed to upcoming campaign activities, including a healthcare forum and a visit to the eastern end of the island for what he described as his third and final fireside chat.

Dickinson also outlined his message to delegates who will ultimately decide the party’s next leader.

He explained that the delegate selection process is expected to begin in earnest during the first, second and third weeks of September, following the August 31st membership determination deadline.

Dickinson said his campaign is centered around five key pillars: housing, healthcare, education, safe communities and infrastructure.

He argued that the issues are interconnected and must be addressed together to provide meaningful relief to Bermudians.

“My message to delegates is let’s look at the whole of the problem and let’s address the various pieces with strategies that are designed to bring relief to people,” Dickinson said.

For now, Dickinson is continuing his campaign while also using the annual back-to-school initiative to provide direct assistance to families in his constituency and the wider community.
