As Cup Match festivities sweep across the island, CEO of the Bermuda Hospitals Board, Scott Pearman, took a moment to reflect on the season and its meaning for the dedicated healthcare staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes.
“Cup Match is a time for all Bermudians to celebrate as a community,” Mr. Pearman said. “Yes, there’s that fun rivalry between Somerset and St. George’s, but at the heart of it all is unity. And here at the hospital, we take this opportunity to give back to the staff who show up every single day—365 days a year, 24/7—for the people of Bermuda.”
In keeping with tradition, the hospital hosted two special events in celebration of the holiday: one at the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute (MWI) on Thursday, and the other at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH) on Friday. The events are a chance not only to thank the staff but also to bring them together in a spirit of camaraderie, culture, and care.
But the festivities weren’t just about celebration. This year’s events also included an important educational component, centered on the future of healthcare in Bermuda. “It’s not all just a free lunch,” Pearman noted with a smile. “We’re also using this time to share and consult on Vision 2030.”
Vision 2030 is the Bermuda Hospitals Board’s long-term strategic initiative focused on transforming the island’s healthcare system. Staff are being encouraged to provide input, and the wider public is also being invited to take part in shaping the future of healthcare.
“I ask all members of the public: when you see the opportunities to weigh in on Vision 2030—whether it’s a survey or a town hall meeting—please participate,” Mr. Pearman urged. “We’re building a better hospital and a stronger healthcare system for all of Bermuda.”
As the island turns red or blue in celebration, the Bermuda Hospitals Board is reminding everyone that behind the scenes, the spirit of service and unity is alive and well.
