Crisis Brewing at Westgate: Massive Raid Uncovers Drugs, Phones and Rising Threats Against Officers

Tensions are reportedly reaching a breaking point inside Bermuda’s maximum-security prison following a large-scale raid at the maximum-security section of Westgate Correctional Facility, according to information reaching TNN.

Sources indicate that correctional officers seized several cell phones along with a quantity of suspected contraband drugs during the operation. Among the substances reportedly discovered were suspected synthetic drugs, magic mushrooms, black tar — believed to be smoked similarly to hash — shatter, a concentrated cannabis byproduct, and quantities of cannabis.

In a separate raid Officers are said to be particularly alarmed that more drugs were allegedly found inside a “lifers” cell, raising growing concerns about how contraband continues to enter the facility despite heightened security measures.

TNN also understands that threats and intimidation against prison officers have intensified in recent weeks. In one incident, a brick was reportedly thrown through the window of an officer’s car. In another case, the vehicle of a landlord connected to a prison officer allegedly had its window smashed.

Sources claim inmates are increasingly targeting and intimidating officers both inside and outside the prison walls, creating what some describe as an atmosphere of fear and instability.

The situation has reportedly become so severe that one correctional officer is said to be resigning due to the stress and threats connected to the job.

Meanwhile, officers are also questioning recent comments made by the Attorney General regarding a visit to the British Virgin Islands (BVI) to observe correctional operations there.

Correctional staff point out that, some time ago, two senior officers from Bermuda’s prison system were reportedly sent to the BVI for several months to help address operational challenges within their correctional facility. As a result, some officers are now questioning why Bermuda would attempt to model aspects of its prison system after what they describe as a previously troubled system.

Officers are now calling for urgent intervention and support, warning that conditions inside the Westgate Correctional facility are deteriorating rapidly and could soon erupt into a full-scale crisis.
