After a period of closure, Court Street Liquors is officially back in business — just in time for the Bermuda Day festivities next Friday. Once one of the busiest liquor stores in Bermuda, the beloved establishment is returning to its roots with a new sense of purpose and a focus on community revival.
We caught up with owner Art Simons, who, alongside his business partner Antoine Lee, is spearheading the store’s reopening and reimagining its role in the neighborhood.
We asked Art “What brought you into this business?” Simons replied. “Just the opportunity. I want to bring the community back. That’s what I’m trying to bring — the community back in here. Court Street could be a community and a family environment again. That’s what I want to bring back to you.”
But the plans don’t stop at liquor sales. The team behind Court Street Liquors is expanding its vision to create a more welcoming and family-oriented atmosphere.
“We’re also going to have parties in the parking lot,” Simons explains. “We’re going to try to give them snowballs and ice cream… cotton candy. I just want the community to feel like we’re home again.”
The goal is clear: transform the perception of Court Street by turning it into a hub of positivity and togetherness — something that caters not just to adults, but to families and children too.
“I just want everybody to feel like it’s home again. Take the bad name off Court Street. That’s what I’m trying to do,” Simons says.
Court Street Liquors will now be open from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., offering regular hours to better serve the neighborhood.
