Word coming into TNN News from reliable sources within Westgate Correctional Facility have exposed a deepening crisis of corruption and security breaches, shaking the institution to its core. Officers, contract workers, and even inmates are implicated in a growing web of illicit activity that has turned the maximum-security unit into a breeding ground for chaos and fear.
According to inside reports, cell phones are being smuggled into the facility at an alarming rate. Correctional officers and contract workers alike are allegedly involved, facilitating the entry of these devices along with other contraband. The consequences have been severe—senior officers report being followed outside of work, receiving anonymous messages revealing their home addresses and vehicle details, and facing direct intimidation from inmates emboldened by their newfound communication networks.
A particularly disturbing revelation is that nearly every inmate in the maximum-security units is believed to have access to a cell phone. These devices are not just being used for communication with the outside world but are also instrumental in coordinating threats, organizing contraband distribution, and undermining the facility’s security measures. The C-Units, in particular, have become a hotspot for unchecked cell phone activity.
The situation has been exacerbated by inexperience in leadership. Officers have voiced frustration over a series of rapid promotions that have placed individuals with less than two years of experience into key leadership roles, including acting chief officers. This lack of seasoned oversight has fueled the discontent among senior and basic officers, many of whom feel abandoned and unheard.
A major point of contention is the absence of the Commissioner of Prisons, Mrs. Joel-Benjamin, from the most troubled areas of the facility. Officers claim that she has failed to conduct direct inspections of C-Block and the E-Blocks, where the most severe breaches have occurred. Without leadership presence on the ground, officers believe the problems will only worsen.
As tensions reach a boiling point, correctional officers are making one thing clear—they demand immediate action. Their safety, as well as the integrity of the institution, is at stake. With corruption running rampant and fear taking hold, the time for intervention is now.
