Controversy Erupts in C-15 as OBA Candidates T-Shirts Spark Outrage

With less than 18 hours before polling begins, tensions are high in the C-15 constituency as residents express outrage over a campaign tactic by the One Bermuda Alliance (OBA) candidate Malachi Symonds.

Reports have surfaced that the candidate distributed t-shirts in areas known for their strong support of the Progressive Labour Party (PLP), including Pembroke East, Pembroke Central, and Pembroke North neighborhoods often considered PLP strongholds.

For many residents, the gesture was seen as disrespectful and provocative. A group of loyal PLP supporters voiced their anger, calling the move demeaning and disrespectful. One individual shared their reaction, stating, I took the t-shirt and threw it right in their car. I didn’t even look at it until two days later. Only by the grace of God did it happen like that because I might have lashed out.

A senior member of the community was equally disturbed, saying, We don’t have to stoop to these types of tactics. This is a very low, belittled approach, and it’s not necessary in Bermuda. We deserve respect, regardless of political affiliation.

The incident has ignited a heated debate about campaign strategies and respect for voter political allegiances. Many in the community feel that the distribution of the t-shirts was an attempt to undermine their political identity, leading to heightened tensions just hours before the polls open.

TNN Investigates is actively seeking a response from the One Bermuda Alliance to address the controversy. As election day approaches, the impact of this incident on voter sentiment remains to be seen.
