Last Friday, (15 November), Ms. Donna Outerbridge, an employee of the Department of Health, was honored with the Government of Bermuda’s Public Service Excellence Award for October.
Ms. Outerbridge was selected as performance champion of the month for demonstrating dedication, compassion, and professionalism in her role as a Temporary Additional Social Worker at the Department of Health.
Nominated for her extraordinary efforts in providing high-quality care to clients, her colleagues noted the significant impact she has recently made on the lives of Bermuda’s residents.
Ms. Outerbridge stepped in during a crisis, offering critical support to a client and their family. She went above and beyond her official responsibilities to identify and address a life-threatening medical emergency, ensuring the client received timely care at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. Throughout the ordeal, Ms. Outerbridge provided emotional support, coordinated with various agencies to advocate for the client, and remained available outside office hours to address the family’s needs.
Community Social Workers play a pivotal role in fostering the well-being of individuals, families, and communities. By addressing various social issues, these professionals work to create positive change and enhance the quality of life for those they serve. Their responsibilities are diverse and encompass a range of activities designed to support and empower the community.
Premier David Burt expressed his gratitude to Ms. Outerbridge at the Cabinet Office, saying, “Ms. Outerbridge exemplifies the spirit of public service through her compassion, commitment, and willingness to go the extra mile. Her actions demonstrate the profound difference public officers can make in the lives of individuals and families, especially during moments of crisis. Head of the Public Service, Cherie Whitter, praised Ms. Outerbridge’s dedication and work ethic and added, “On behalf of the Public Service Executive, thank you for your outstanding effort.
